Information

Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) is a launch site located within Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. SLC-40 saw its first launch in June 1965 with a Titan IIIC. SLC-40 supported an array of Titan launch vehicles between 1965 and 2005. SpaceX leased the site from the US Air Force in 2007 with the first launch occurring in June 2010 marking the first flight of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle. In 2016, SLC-40 was destroyed following the failure of a Falcon 9 rocket during a static fire test while on the launch pad (AMOS-6); SLC-40 would not see another launch for 15 months. Since 2024, SLC-40 has been capable of supporting Dragon 2 crew and cargo missions thanks to the addition of a tower and crew access arm. Today, SLC-40 is SpaceX’s most active launch pad often seeing multiple Falcon launches per week.
